Our Junior Programs

Since the late 1990's Bushwood Golf Club has been dedicated to the Game of Golf

We started to introduce the Game of Golf to Juniors with our Mentor Instruction Programs. Mentors are Volunteers that escort a group of Juniors around the course while they play 9 holes of Golf.

Mentors are the Heart of our Junior Programs. They introduce not only Golf but teach that Golf is a social game. They share their Joy and Love for the game that inspires the juniors to p lay the game the rest of their life.

Our Program and the local Community are blessed with continuing success.

The process of Learning Golf has to be Fun and Enjoyable. We are dedicated to creating an excellent experience for all Golfers.

Please know that we supply the proper fitted clubs to Juniors for all summer long when they are registered in any of our programs for use at Bushwood Golf Club. Everyone knows that with the right clubs, your game improves.

Bob Lapansee joins Staff

After success at Coaching Hockey at Jack Adams Arena in Detroit for over 16 years and Head Golf Coach in the Catholic League for over 5 years, Bob Lapansee brings all that experience to Bushwood Golf Club as Director of Golf.

As Director of Golf, Mr Lapansee is looking forward to year after year of growth planning in the Junior Programs at Bushwood Golf Club.

Starting with the website and meetings, Mentors are given simple tips and lessons to help instruction 'paint with the same brush' as we support the Juniors playing golf. We feel that a common goal and a proven path to obtain that goal is the best avenue of progress to tap into the growth potential of each Junior.

Let us Introduce you to Thing One - Thing Two

Golf Instruction just became easy in 2010 with the introduction of Thing One - Thing Two. Ask any Junior that has been in our program about 'Thing One - Thing Two" and you will get a SMILE.

The discovery of Thing One - Thing Two all started with Bob Lapansee at the Driving Range at Oasis Golf Center. Bob was introduced to two Juniors that had challenges and accepted the challenge to develop instruction in its simplest form. While thinking 'what are the muscles used in the golf swing', the shoulders turn back and forth while keeping your center.

He developed an exercise where the Junior extends their arms straight out from their shoulders, turn the shoulders and arms while leaving the head perfectly still. Soon he noticed that the shoulder blades turned out and a physical change to the body was observed. This helped the challenged Juniors to a great degree and he knew he was onto something. Next at the driving range were two twin Juniors. That is when Thing One - Thing Two was named. The rest of the story is still continuing to this day.

The birth of the Junior Classic

In developing Junior Golf the thought was for the instruction to come full circle. To get an experience that measures yourself against other golfers your own age and gender.

At the end of the Golf Season in 2015 the Junior Classic was born. Junior Golfers competing in 4 different age divisions and split into two gender categories for trophies make the event a 'Classic'.

Registration is restricted to Bushwood Juniors participating in our Junior Golf Programs the same year. The event includes lunch at George's Senate Coney Island Restaurant after Trophies are given to First Place and Runner up with a Grand Trophy to the Overall Champion.

The event takes place every year, on the first Sunday after the Summer Programs are completed. Registration is easy with on-line applications available. Competitive Golf that is fair and Fun for everyone!

Scramble Scramble

Competitive Golf with an Adult - parent - grandparent - or loved one, plus one Junior and add scrambled egg breakfast at George's Senate Coney Island Restaurant and you have 'Scramble Scramble'.

A Scramble format Tournament with 4 age divisions for the Junior participant plus one Adult partner all compete for Trophies and Overall Champion on a Sunday that marks the near end of the Season at Bushwood Golf Club.

Don't forget about our special prizes for all attendees and a special Trophy for a Hole In One. Start the day off right with a proper breakfast at George's, then listen for the Shot Gun start and you are in the Scramble Scramble.

Spring Swing Open Postponed

Our plans for the 2021 season start with a Mothers Day Special  on May 8th.

We are in the planning stages for this event in 2022. Plans call for one Junior and one Adult Teams to compete for Overall Champion in separate divisions. Best Ball will be the format. Play by the rules and compete against the field for the best score against the best Junior -  Adult Teams in SE Michigan.

We are planning, just like the other events at Bushwood Golf Club, to have a Code of Conduct, Local Rules, and easy Registration On-Line.

 A Special Trophy for Overall Winner will be given to the team of Junior and Adult. Prizes will be awarded to all participants of the Spring Swing Open. George at Senate Coney Island Restaurant will offer specials to all Golfers and Guests for food and drinks during the event.

We hope to Mark the Spot on the 'Glove' of Michigan where Junior and Adult Golfers have fun and enjoy Golf.
